I believe that...

... beauty and health are much greater than a number

... dieting and food restriction are harmful to ones body, mind and spirit

... true nourishment is deeply satisfying and feels really good in your body

... judgment keeps us stuck, being kind and curious allows for awareness leading to behavior change

... anything worthwhile requires some attention and  energy

... we are all  born with the wisdom to nourish and take care of our bodies

Meet Silvina

As a nutrition professional with more than 20 years experience, Silvina provides a fresh look at food and nourishment. She takes a non-diet, mindful and intuitive eating approach with her clients and families. This is necessary for true healing around food and body/weight/health concerns as diets perpetuate the problems they are meant to resolve

After finishing my internship, I worked at the Greater Los Angeles VA Medical Center   and later at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks as a clinical dietitian with primary reposibilties as an outpatient dietitian---counseling for weight loss, diabetes, high cholesterol/triglycerides and more. I soon realized that patients did not do well when given "diets" or when told what to eat . I started to research other approaches.  I began to use a non-diet approach, and trained in Intuitve Eating (IE). Deep down, I was certain it was the best approach as  I had had my own struggles with food and knew that diets were never the answer or a lasting solution. Clients/patients responded well to IE, it resonated with them like no diet ever had. By letting go of the "diet mentality"  along with other principles and practices, patients became empowered  to use their own body wisdom, making it much more natural to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Half way through my career, my interests led me to intensive training in Integrative and Functional Nutrition, which provided a whole new modality to support clients with chronic conditions like Type 2 diabetes and GI ailments. Functional medicine is a highly progressive and whole body approach which aims to address and heal the underlying causes of various chronic diseases.

For the past 20 + years, I have  been a consulting for the renowned  County of Ventura Wellness Program where I have been coaching, teaching, developing programs and delivering cooking classes and,  have maintained a private practice.  As a nutrition therapist, lifestyle coach and educator,  I have consulted for other wellness clients in the past, Health Net, LA Project LEAN, Limonera, Foundation Health and written for Living Fit and Shape Magazine.   My experience also extends to working with high risk prenatal women, moms and families in child feeding and preventing overeating and feeding problems, as I have specialized training in weight management for children and adolecsents.  Along the years (20 +, wow time flies!) I have had the priveledge to work with wonderful individuals in many settings ---from teaching at the university level (Pepperdine University and California State University Northridge) to guiding clients/patients in finding their best weight and health---in oupatient clinics, in physician offices, during wellness coaching and in my private practice. I also love to cook and develop recipes to support my clients and teach cooking classes. I am recently trainined as a mindful eating (MB-EAT) facilitator.

As a nutrition therapist and coach, I will be honored to work along side with you to  empower you in  discovering  a healthy relationship with food, your body and health!

I am passionate about my family, my work, good food---especially local produce, the Sierra Nevadas, yoga, skiing and protecting mother earth!
